Hey hey hey, and happy Saturday!
It’s forecast to be a rainy weekend here, which is honestly good for me to get everything done on my to-do list! Some of it is household admin, but a good portion of it is craft admin — needlepoint finishing deadlines, upcoming events, and just wanting to relax, tbh.
Here’s to wishing you a weekend filled with relaxing vibes, whatever that means for you!
What I’m Reading Offline
I’m currently about to begin Book 2 of the Legendborn series by Tracy Deonn. I have wanted to read it for ages, but I can only handle so many unfinished series at once. Now that book 3 is out, I’m all in. I’m really enjoying it so far, and I like that it’s using a different conceit as the foundation for the magic in this world. I have a personal connection to Arthurian legend thanks to my beloved summer camp, and seeing this twist on it is amazing.
What I’m Reading Online
I am a fan of baseball not because of the sport, but because of all the extras: sitting in the sun, ballpark foods, cold beer, heckling. If you’ve ever wondered about the history of the Cracker Jack, look no further. The Smithsonian’s got you covered.
If you’re at all online — literally, at all — you’ve seen the news of the biggest national security blunder that I can remember (and probably the attempts to gaslight us that it isn’t that serious). However, I needed to share it here on the off chance you haven’t read the full piece at The Atlantic, and because the memes have been amazing. As always,
’s commentary is fabulous, and I do have gift subscriptions to her Substack if anyone wants one!I joked that this is basically becoming a Substack recommendation section, but it’s true! I think that some of the best writing is happening on this platform right now, and I am lucky enough to also get great recs from other creators I follow. Thanks to
for both of these:It should not surprise you that I also consume a lot of book content, and so I cannot resist anyone’s perspective on the Best Books Coming out this Spring or the Best Books of 2025 so far. Obviously reading is entirely subjective, and I’m aware that my reading habits don’t skew “high-brow literary fiction” all the time, but it is strange that only a few of these were on my radar! What about you?
I do believe in the psychological benefits of crafting — I spend a lot of my leisure time dedicated to it, too! — and I would encourage anyone to find their own favorite. My preferred one is needlepoint, but I dabble in painting and occasionally beading, if there is a project need!
I have no childhood memories of eating in a California Pizza Kitchen — my hometown wasn’t large enough for that level of chain — but I did still feel nostalgic reading about 5 Eater editors revisiting CPK.
What I’m Coveting
This is a big year for weddings in my friend circle — and it’s somewhat unexpected as I’m inching closer to 40 with every day! However, I love nothing more than celebrating my favorite people (see also: Bachelorette cruise in a few weeks), and I am thrilled to be attending the cutest, most colorful small wedding at the end of May. The bride has endorsed my dress choice (not at all required but I like validation of all my choices, no matter how small), and I cannot wait for it to arrive.
I need another tote bag like I need a hole in my head, but this one from Bauble Bar is following me around the internet. Wouldn’t it be so cute for the summer? Yes, I have already chosen my icons, and it may be in the cart — but I am not letting myself pull the trigger. Yet.
Weirdly, there is a lot of TV that I am interested in watching — this is only weird if you know me in real life because I solely watch the West Wing or sports documentaries — and so I guess I am coveting more leisure time? Looking to find time to watch The Residence and Paradise — is there anything else I should add to my list?
What I’m Liking Most of All (a.k.a. moments of small joy from this week)
These lego flowers my Mom added to my office for a pop of color
The Alex Warren song “Ordinary”, as well as the TikTok content about it being used at a wedding
The weather that isn’t too hot or humid yet, so I can actually comfortably sit in my backyard
